Left-right politics is failing New Zealand (and the rest of the world)
A brilliant essay from Qiulae “Q” Wong, the leader of Opportunity. Although targeted to a New Zealand audience, the same dynamic of pendulum politics is leading to a decline in many countries all over the world.
Left-right politics is failing New Zealand
Kiwis are so fortunate to have the MMP electoral system, borrowed from Germany, which enables a true multi-party system. But we have to take advantage of it. In my mind, a vote for the legacy left-right parties is a vote for continuing the status quo, where every 3-6-9 years, we flip governments, and the pendulum swings the other direction, preventing the tackling of complex long-term problems.
It’s a lot tougher to set a new course in other countries with less fortunate electoral systems, but change is still possible!
